Ceremonium was commissioned for the dedication is a new state-of-the-art auditorium and performing arts wing at Coopersville (MI) High School. The composer noted that he was struck by the intense level of community spirit he encountered in Coopersville as he began work on this piece and incorporated that spirit in the work. "The strength, vitality, spirit, and cohesiveness of 'community' is the lifeblood of America, the societal glue that binds our country together," he said. "I hope that Ceremonium may reflect the wondrous spirit of community possessed by so many areas of the American landscape." Moss, who has taught at the high school and university levels in Michigan, has several hundred published works to his credit; he has composed and arranged music for documentary, educational and promotional films as well as musical revues. --James Huff 21:57, March 25, 2007 (EDT) (from the program notes of The Claremont Winds, submitted with permission)
