Pandemonium

From Program Notes

Jump to: navigation, search

The word "pandemonium" was invented by poet John Milton in the 17th century for use in Paradise Lost. The word has an array of meanings, from wild lawlessness and utter chaos to a personal sense of confusion and uncertainty. Similarly, in this work American composer Roger Cichy creates a sense of catastrophic events offset by music that is deliberately confusing and unsettling or eerie and uncertain. The work was commissioned by the Western/Northwestern divisions of the College Band Directors National Association, including Fullerton College, where our conductor Dr. Mazzaferro heads the music department. --James Huff 06:36, 21 July 2008 (UTC) (from the program notes of The Claremont Winds, submitted with permission)
