William J. Huff (b. 1958) - Bill Huff became interested in jazz at a very early age listening to his mother's few recordings of New Orleans legend Pete Fountain. Taking up the clarinet at age 10 in the school band program, he figured he would be swingin' like Pete in no time, but the program only offered classical instruction to clarinetists. Noticing that the junior high jazz band used saxophones (and admitting that he was a mediocre clarinet man), Bill switched to the saxophone in eighth grade and never looked back. Now in his 28th year as the lead voice for the contemporary jazz band Polyhedra, Bill has played his alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones at many venues throughout California, including appearances at the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Paso Robles Jazz Festival, the Western States Jazz Festival, the Playboy club, the Palomino, Hop Singh's, Le Cafe, Cafe Lido, Randall's, the Comedy Store Annex, the Ice House, and many other clubs, colleges, and jazz havens. Bill released two CDs with Polyhedra which received wide exposure on hundreds of radio stations throughout the nation and garnered critic acclaim. Also a composer and an educator, Bill currently transfers his passion for jazz to the younger generation by leading the Upland Unified School District Elementary Jazz Band. In this group, Bill gives talented 5th and 6th grade students their first experience with jazz by introducing them to the big band format. Listening together to the great masters of the past and the modern masters of today's stage and then working together to create that sound with these young players has been an important and rewarding event in Bill's musical life. Outside of the musical world, Bill is a real estate investor, management consultant, and part time urban rancher.
